Ack, I really should have posted about this sooner.
Several Oxford university student societies have teamed up to put on an event in order to raise money for the excellent charity Fund4Darfur. Anyway, the event is organised by Oxford Aegis Society, United World Colleges and Oxford University United Nations Associations, and is called the One World [...]

[Reminder] Oxford Radical Forum
Posted in Oxford, Real Life on February 29, 2008 | Leave a Comment »
So, the Oxford Radical Forum starts today. Some of it sounds really good, some of it sounds rubbish (or at least, doesn’t interest me). Nevertheless, I’ll certainly be attending at least some of it.
Anyway, check it out if you’re interested!
Samantha Power in Oxford

I mentioned earlier that I’m currently reading Samantha Power’s book, ‘A Problem from Hell’: America and the Age of Genocide. Well, it turns out that Power, who’s now foreign policy adviser to Barack Obama is speaking in Oxford on March 5th (Wednesday of 8th week).
She’s speaking at the Oxford Union at 8.30pm. This [...]
Reflections on Arek Hersh in Oxford

Yesterday, as advertised, Holocaust Survivor Arek Hersh spoke in Oxford. Some reflections:
1. It’s important that films like Arek are made. Sad as it is, Holocaust Survivors like Arek won’t be with us that much longer (Arek was 11 when he was first taken to the camps by the Nazis), and it’s a huge privilege to [...]
OUCA on t’Internet

Via Confused Conservative comes the news that Tory MP for Mid Bedfordshire, Nadine Dorries was rather disappointed in the behaviour of OUCA (Oxford University Conservative Association) at the LUCA (London Universities Conservative Association) ball last week. Dorries has posted about it on her blog. Anyway, Dorries writes:
“The students were all really good fun [...]

Odeon are refusing to show the new Rambo film. Obviously, they are within their rights to do so, but this is really annoying, seeing as the two main cinemas in Oxford are Odeons.
Seems I’ll have to wait ’til after term ends to watch this mindless actioner.
EDIT: Mark Kermode doesn’t like the new film!

These days, it’s rare that I read something that isn’t in my degree reading list. But, I’m currently reading A Problem from Hell: America and the Age of Genocide by Samantha Power, which was given to me by a friend. I’m only two chapter in, but so far it’s excellent. In it, Power gives a [...]
The Sun in Oxford

So, Balliol JCR voted to stock The Sun, overturning 35 years of refusing to buy it. This has kicked up a bit of a fuss. The Sun reports it over here. They claim that:
“Loony Lefties dropped our newspaper from the junior common room at Oxford University’s Balliol College in the early [...]

Holocaust Survivor Arek Hersh speaks in Oxford
Posted in Aegis, Oxford, Real Life on February 20, 2008 | 3 Comments »
On Wednesday of 7th Week (27th February) at 8pm, Arek Hersh, author of A Detail of History and subject of the film Arek will be speaking in Madgalen Auditorium. I’ve heard Arek speak before, and it’s a really worthwhile experience. It’s important that people hear what Holocaust survivors like Arek have to say.
The entrance [...]
